Believing Stuff for Your Children

As a parent it’s your responsibility to pray for your children. But what do you pray? The Lord understands the yearnings of your heart for your children. He is there and knows exactly what your child needs even if you don’t. 

 

As stated in other articles, God can’t lie - Numbers 23:19 - what He has said is a guarantee. Yet it is difficult when our emotions are so involved. Don’t lean to your emotions. They cause the worst trouble. Instead lean into the Word of God and His promises for your children. 

 

There are two parts of “what” to be aware of with your children: 1. praying the promises of God as a means of rejoicing, not asking. Because it’s already given; 2. Is knowing when the Holy Spirit is giving you a warning for your kids. 

 

We will get into both. They are vital to know. 

 

1. Praying in thanksgiving the promises of God for your children

When you pray a scripture regarding your child, make it “yours.” Put your child’s name in the scripture. Let the Lord speak to you through that scripture. He will show you insights. They may come up as “thoughts”. He may “show” you something specific. Whatever He shows, hold on to it. If you have questions, ask Him. He will reveal it. Sometimes right aways. Sometimes not, it may take a while until you get it. Either way, trust Him. Realize that your child/children are God’s children first! He gave them to you. You are to be their “steward”. To train them in the things of God, teach them to obey God, teach them a relationship with God. Children copy their parents. That’s how it goes. So when your relationship and life is strong with God, theirs will be also. Including when they rebel. “Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is older he shall not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6. As long as you did what you are supposed to do they will turn around. If you didn’t for whatever the reason, maybe you hadn’t received Jesus yet, or maybe you simply didn’t know - TRUST GOD! They are HIS kids first! Pray these prayers over them. It will change things!

 

I will place 4 scriptures with a prayer using the scripture. You’ll get the idea. Subsequent scriptures are listed without the prayer and you can add a prayer as you’re using the previous examples.

 

  • Romans 12:2 - “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

 

“Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I pray for my son/daughter. Lord Jesus, help him/her not to be conformed to this world, to his/her friends and going with the crowd and their ungodly notions. Cause him/her to lean in to You. To trust You in every situation - especially when he/she won’t tell me. That’s normal. But he/she can talk with You. Lead him/her. Talk them through each situation. And I thank You for it, in Jesus Name.”

 

  • Psalms 103:17-18 - “…The Lord’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children—18with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts.”

 

“Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I want to thank You that Your love is to (child’s name). You love him/her even more than I do. I thank You that You watch over them and that Your righteousness is with him/her. Lord Jesus, lead him/her in everything. If he/she is not listening to You, Holy Spirit lean on him/her, convict them if what (they) are doing is not right. Show them the way out. I thank You for taking care of (name). He/she is yours first. I am his/her steward. Show me what else I need to do to help in the situation. And I give You all the praise and glory for it, in Jesus Name.” 

 

  • Ephesians 1:17-23 and 3:14-21 - “17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. 18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, 19and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills everything in every way.” And “14For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from Whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its Name. 16I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20Now to Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, 21to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

 

“Father God, I ask You and thank You for giving (name) Your wisdom and revelation knowledge and that (his/her) eyes are enlightened to Who you are and (his/her) place within in You! That they fall in love with YOU! And know what Your calling is for them. And that (he/she) knows, that (he/she) knows, that (he/she) knows what YOUR inheritance is, that is in (him/her) and what is YOUR amazing power that is IN (him/her) because they believe in You. I pray Father God that You show (him/her) how bid You are and how powerful You are and that You are within them! This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead!! That (he/she) knows that the very same power of You is IN them! And that (he/she) knows this power is in all of the Body of Christ of which (he/she) is a part of and fill it up with Your glorious Self! I thank You Father God that we have Your Name! The Name of Jesus is Your Name and we have it to. It’s not something we only say. It’s part of “Who” we are in Christ Jesus and I thank You for revealing this to my kid(s). I pray Father God that You strengthen them with Your might in their inner man, the Holy Spirit Power in their inner being, so that the fullness of the Anointing - the Holy Spirit - can display Himself through (him/her), in Jesus Name, because (he/she) knows that You are there! I pray and I thank You for it that (he/she) is ROOTED and grounded in Your love and Your love passes Your knowledge to (him/her), and that (he/she) is filled with ALL the knowledge and fullness of You. Now I give YOU all the glory for this because I know that You do even more than what I ask or think according to Your Power that is at work within me and within (name).”

 

  • Psalm 127:2 - “"It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sweet sleep."

“Father, it says in Your Word, that You give Your beloved sweet sleep. So in the Name of Jesus, I pray that You give (name) sweet undisturbed sleep. I loose all the fiery darts and arrows the enemy has thrown at them during the day (Ephesians 6:16). Holy Spirit, I ask You to cleanse all the residue from those darts and arrows from their bodies and seal my girls in the Blood of Jesus. I ask that You loose all the attacks from the enemy not only in (his/her) bodies but their souls: our mind, will and emotions; purging all the areas in us that have been affected by these attacks. I ask that You seal our bodies and souls in the Blood of Jesus and by The All Powerful Name of Jesus. I know there is nothing with more Authority than the Name of Jesus and His Glorified Blood which He spilled for us. Father God before I sleep I place my spirit into Your hands for safekeeping as I know that You love me and will take care of me as I rest.”

 

As you can see how you “put yourself” and those whom you are praying for into scripture, you can do this with any scripture and use it as a prayer.  Below are some scriptures that are useful. It’s not all of them by any means - that would be the entire Bible. Also read Proverbs. There are many passages there that are helpful. And remember to go on to part 2 - following the unction of the Holy Spirit when He is giving you a warning about your children.

 

  • Joel 1:3 - “Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.”

  • Psalm 51:10, 12 - “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”

  • Philippians 4:4-7 - “4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Deuteronomy 4:9 - “9Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”

  • Mark 10:14 - “When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

  • 2 Corinthians 12:14 - “After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.”

  • Proverbs 18:24 - “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,

       but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

  • John 13:34-35 - “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

  • Proverbs 17:9 - “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

  • Psalm 91

  • Jeremiah 29:11-13 - “11For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

 

2. Knowing when the Holy Spirit is giving you a warning for your kids

 

As a parent, it’s a God-given ability, when you just “know” what’s going on with your kids. When you have that “knowing” it is not random. God is letting you know so you can pray to stop what is happening. 

 

“Knowing” or a vision, or a dream are all ways He can let you in on what is happening or about to happen. You may already have insight how to pray and what scriptures to use. If you do not, ask Him. Stay quiet until you know. Have your Bible because He will direct you to certain passages. For safety always be ready to plead the Blood of Jesus on your child and on the situation they are in; cancel any assignments the devil has launched against them; and pray the 91st Psalm over them…and anything else the Lord tells you to do.

 

Let me share something from my own life. Many may know that I had a stroke when I was 26. That attack of the stroke was intended to take me out. I was in a coma for 3 days. Recovery was tough. Couldn’t read. Couldn’t write. Very difficult time speaking. Paralyzed on the right side of my body. And at that time I was a professional dancer. My entire life changed in a moment. Prior to this event, like 8 or 9 months, my mother had been led by the Lord to pray particular scriptures over me - confess them over me:

    • Psalm 91:16 - “With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

    • Psalm 118:17 - “I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord.”

    • Isaiah 54:13 - “All your children shall be taught by the Lord,
      And great shall be the peace of your children.”

 

The Lord had been impressing her to pray these over me each day for 8 or 9 months! He wouldn’t let her off of it. As she did this she was planting these scriptures in her heart by speaking them over me each day for all those months, and she could handle what she was about to be told. When she received the phone call about what occurred and was told that I would die, she immediately spoke these scriptures out of her heart to the person who had called her. Good thing too. She had to negate the words that were being spoken around me from friends and doctors. speaking - that I “wasn’t going to make it.”  She spoke the Word over the situation in my life, took Authority over the negative words by speaking the Word of God. She cancelled out the words of death and destruction others were speaking. Words create. Words can activate the demonic realm to bring them to pass or God's realm to bring them to pass. And mom had to stop those words of death that were be spoken with the Word of God.

 

You see, when people are in life threatening situations most do not know what to do. They freak out. They speak what they fear. And they attempt to be “sympathetic” saying, “oh, poor Rina (or whomever). (She) used to be such a great ……”. Instead my mother would retort: “No, she will not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Great is her peace, her wholeness, in Jesus Name. And she has a long life because of what the Lord Jesus has done!” 

 

Usually there was silence on the other end of the phone. And a quick, “Oh, ok.” It wasn’t much different when she got to the hospital. They all thought she was nuts. But who cares when you’re trying to keep your kid alive. Speak the Word of God! It changes things! “Let there be light. And it was so.” 

 

That’s how you handle crisis situations. No matter what it looks like. No matter what you think. No matter what it feels like. Words create life or death - what kind of words will you speak over your children?
